Cairngorms National Park Event Planners' Guide - Manual / Resource - Page 4
What is so special
about the Cairngorms?
The Cairngorms is the largest National Park in the UK.
With its backdrop of mountains, forests, lochs and rivers the
breathtaking scenery lends itself to any indoor or outdoor event!
Where Winter Comes to Life
The Cairngorm plateau is the highest and most
extensive range of arctic mountain landscape in
the British Isles. Cairngorms Culture embraces its
environment and our ski resorts: Glenshee Ski Centre,
Lecht Ski Centre and Cairngorm Mountain, means the
scope for snowsports, winter mountaineering, climbing
and gentler low level walking is endless. The winter
bustle in the National Park rivals the summer months,
with infrastructure to support this.
“The Cairngorms in winter opens up
the chance for magical moments and
life de昀ning experiences. They offer
something very unique in terms
of both the potential for experiences
and the natural habitat that makes
up the environment.=
Lesley McKenna,
Snowboarding Olympian
Nature and Wildlife
We know this is a special spot and so does our wildlife. The National Park is home
to a quarter of Britain’s threatened species - wildcats,
capercaillie, red squirrels, osprey, pine marten and
golden eagle all call the Cairngorms home, and we
take care of the National Park to ensure they can
thrive. We have nine National Nature Reserves who
protect our wildlife and their habitats; and help our
visitors to enjoy nature and our environment safely.
Spotting a red squirrel
is one of life’s joys!
